By law a Brunello is 100% Sangiovese and cannot be sold until its fifth year after harvest, which is why even young bottles arrive already softened. The result is a wine of real structure: red fruit, savory herbs, and tannins that need either air or age. Tuscan hillsides, poor soils and a long dry summer are the conditions Sangiovese needs to ripen properly. This is the 2019 from Tenuta Il Poggione. Decant an hour ahead. Serve with bistecca, wild boar ragù, or aged pecorino.
