Grown in slightly gentler conditions than Barolo, Barbaresco ripens earlier and requires less time in barrel before release. The aromatic signature is the same — rose, tar, red cherry — but the frame is softer and comes around years sooner. Piedmont, in Italy's northwest, is Nebbiolo's home ground and produces some of the country's longest-lived reds. This is the 2021 from Piazzo. Give it some air before serving. Pairs with braised meats and anything earthy.
