Enfer d'Arvier is a tiny sub-zone of the Valle d'Aosta DOC in Italy's northwestern Alps, a steep, sun-trapped bowl near the village of Arvier whose name means 'hell' for its summer heat. The wine is made mainly from Petit Rouge, a local red grape. Expect a light-to-medium-bodied red with wild berries, sour cherry, violets and a peppery, alpine freshness. Danilo Thomain, 2024 vintage. Serve slightly cool. Pair with fontina and other mountain cheeses, polenta with mushrooms, or cured meats.
