Mencía is the red grape of Bierzo in northwestern Spain, and Raúl Pérez is the winemaker most responsible for its reputation. Ultreia Valtuille comes from old vines around the village of Valtuille de Abajo. Red cherry, violet, black pepper and a mineral, slightly earthy finish on a medium body. Raúl Pérez, 2022 vintage. Serve slightly cool, around 60 degrees. Pair with roast chicken, grilled pork, or lentils with chorizo.
