Montevertine, in Radda in Chianti, left the Chianti Classico appellation in the 1980s and has bottled its wines as Toscana ever since, yet it is one of the purest expressions of Sangiovese in the region. The estate's red adds small amounts of the traditional Canaiolo and Colorino. Expect red cherry, dried rose, orange peel and savory herbs, with fine tannins and bright acidity. Montevertine, 2022 vintage. Decant for an hour and serve in large glasses. Pair with bistecca, roast pigeon, or pici with ragù.
