Fifty years in a cask is close to the practical limit for Scotch — beyond a certain point the oak overwhelms the spirit, and only rare barrels survive that long with anything left to say. The Winchester Collection is Glenlivet's showcase for those casks, released in tiny numbers and named for master distiller Alan Winchester. This is a collector's bottle: whisky laid down before most of today's distillery staff were born.
