DoubleWood is exactly what the name says: twelve years in traditional American oak, then a further period in European sherry casks. The first maturation builds the honeyed, vanilla-led Speyside character; the sherry finish adds dried fruit, nuts, and spice on top. Balvenie still malts some of its own barley on site, which almost no distillery does anymore. An excellent first step from blends into single malt.
