Rustenberg is a historic Stellenbosch estate, and John X Merriman is its Bordeaux-style red, named for a former owner who was also a prime minister of the Cape Colony. Cassis, plum, and cedar with firm, fine tannins. Rustenberg, 2024 vintage. Young, it benefits from a decant or a few years in the cellar. Serve with grilled lamb, venison, or steak frites.
