Dão, in the granite hills of north-central Portugal, is known for fresher, more elegant reds than the warmer south, usually blended from grapes such as Touriga Nacional, Jaen and Alfrocheiro. Porta d'Armas is an affordable, everyday bottling in that style: red cherry, plum, a floral note and a touch of earth, with medium body and soft tannins. Porta d'Armas, current release. Serve slightly cool. A good match for roast chicken, grilled sausages, or pizza.
