Madre is Poggio Antico's Toscana IGT, a blend of Sangiovese with Cabernet Sauvignon from the estate's high-elevation vineyards in Montalcino. The Sangiovese brings sour cherry and dried herbs, the Cabernet adds cassis, weight and firmer tannin. Poggio Antico, 2021 vintage. A long decant helps now, and it will reward a few more years in the cellar. Serve with Florentine steak, braised short ribs, or wild mushroom risotto.
