Nerello Mascalese is the red grape of Mount Etna, often compared to Pinot Noir or Nebbiolo for its pale color and perfume. Planeta, one of Sicily's leading families, named this bottling for the 1614 lava flow near its vineyards on the north side of the volcano. Expect red cherry, wild strawberry, dried herbs and a smoky, mineral finish with firm acidity. Planeta, 2020 vintage. Serve slightly cool. Pair with tuna steak, grilled swordfish, or pasta alla Norma.
