Montepulciano d'Abruzzo is the everyday red of Italy's Adriatic coast, made from the Montepulciano grape, which is unrelated to the Tuscan town. Masciarelli, founded by the late Gianni Masciarelli, did much to raise the profile of Abruzzo wine. Dark cherry, plum, and a hint of spice, with soft tannins and a juicy finish. Serve slightly cool. Pair with pizza, lamb skewers, or pasta with meat sauce.
