Susumaniello is a rare red grape from the Brindisi area of Puglia, nearly lost before producers like Li Veli brought it back as part of their Askos project. It makes a dark, juicy wine: black cherry, blackberry, a touch of licorice and Mediterranean herbs over soft tannins. Li Veli, 2023 vintage. Serve slightly cool. Pair with orecchiette with sausage, grilled lamb, or eggplant parmigiana.
