Messorio is Le Macchiole's Merlot, one of the benchmark single-varietal wines of Bolgheri on the Tuscan coast. The estate, founded by Eugenio Campolmi and carried on by Cinzia Merli, is known for precise, site-driven reds. Expect plum, black cherry, cocoa, violet and graphite, dense and silky, with long, fine tannins. Le Macchiole, 2019 vintage. Decant for a couple of hours, or cellar for years. Serve with beef tenderloin, roast duck, or truffle risotto.
