Bierzo, in northwest Spain's León province, is the home of Mencía, and the village of Valtuille de Abajo is where winemaker Raúl Pérez grew up and runs La Vizcaína with local growers. La Vitoriana is a single-parcel red built on old Mencía vines: dark cherry, violet, black pepper and a cool, slate-like freshness. La Vizcaína, 2024 vintage. Decant briefly and serve just below room temperature. Try it with roast pork, botillo or other cured sausage, or mushroom stew.
