ExcelsuS is Castello Banfi's Bordeaux-style red from its Montalcino estate, a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot bottled as a Toscana IGT, a designation that allows grapes outside the Brunello rules. It is full and polished: blackcurrant, black cherry, cocoa, cedar and sweet spice, with ripe, fine-grained tannins. Banfi, 2019 vintage. Decant for an hour. Serve with grilled porterhouse, rack of lamb, or aged pecorino.
